What's your major and why did you choose it?
My major is advertising and my minor is psychology. I picked advertising as a major because it is a way for me to express my creative and clever side. I also love to write, so the School of Journalism and Mass Communication is just right for me. Give me a pen and paper any day over a #2 pencil and a bubble sheet, ew! My major goes hand in hand with my minor, psychology, because a huge part of advertising is being able to understand your audience and contextualize your work!
What do you plan to do when you graduate?
See the world! I feel like a huge part of learning comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone in order to get some good old fashioned culture shock. There is so much wisdom to be found in every corner of the world, and it is just waiting to be discovered. I don’t mean discover in a Chris Columbus way or anything… more just of an internal way of self discovery through experiences unlike anything I have known. It seems rather whimsical, but I just don’t feel like settling until I have had my fair share of adventures.
Name one thing people shouldn't miss in your college town.
The Tea Garden. This place is like a Starbucks, only for tea and way more Zen. It is a family owned local business and it specializes in making Bubble Tea. Bubble tea is an experience in and of itself. You basically just have to trust me on this one because it is a little hard to explain. It’s just that cool.
How would your best friends describe you?
“Creative, quirky, trendy, optimistic, soulful, talented, smart…” (Direct quote from my roommate)
Reveal to us your secret obsession.
I’m obsessed with dresses and boots, oh and ice chewing… but its no secret.
When nobody's watching, what can we catch you doing?
You’ll never know..........
What would your ideal vacation be?
First, I would have to be with all of my closest, say, thirty friends. We would go on cruise ship and sail around the Mediterranean. We would stop off the coast of Spain, then France and Monaco and around the Greek isles. There would be fancy parties every night with dancing and moonlight hottub dips. We would laugh at the idea of sleeping and watch the sunrise every morning from the side of the boat. You can’t forget wine and cheese tasting parties either. Then our final destination would be Italy… shopping in Rome and fine dining in Florence.
Describe your best Halloween costume.
Freshman year I was a “Sexy Librarian”…. Or at least that’s what the costume container read. I really just looked like a nerd with a cape and a tutu that had books on it. But it was pretty legit nonetheless.
If you won the lottery, what would you do?
Probably pay off loans… this is the brutal truth. Loans first… then going skydiving, a trip to Thailand or India, renting a party bus for my 21st birthday and other frivolous activities. I would also buy a thousand campus girls calendars, and give em’ out like candy, just so I can increase the check to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
If you could do something completely spontaneous right now and not get in trouble you would?
Go play pranks on unsuspecting fraternity men with my sistas, dressed in all black. It would probably involve spray paint, gummy bears, and a whole ton of plastic lawn ornaments, preferably pink flamingos.
Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been?
St. John, of course, to do my Campus Girls photo shoot! Seriously, it was the trip of a lifetime! It was too short though, none of us wanted to leave!!!
Admit something embarrassing.
I am completely addicted to reality television, or all television for that matter. I have watched every episode of Lost, Heroes, Greek, America’s Next Top Model, Sex and the City, Weeds, Project Runway, Gossip Girl… you name it.
What is your most prized possession?
My car maybe? She is a 92’ Saab convertible and black with tan leather interior. She is an oldie, but a goodie. I named her Olive once, but it has never really stuck. I guess she just doesn’t have a taste for them... it happens! So I am taking suggestions for a new name… any ideas?
Tell us something you'd love to do but are too scared to try.
Get a tattoo. I have always wanted one but I am a very up-to-the-minute kind of gal and things get old for me very fast. I know that if I had something permanent on my body I would get sick of it and want it gone. I suppose if I ever got a tattoo it would have to be on my back or somewhere I do not see that often. I would also want to design and draw it myself.
How do you impress a cute guy at a bar?
Have fun with my girlfriends! I think that people in general look the most appealing when they are in their element and aren’t asking for attention. People always show their true colors when they are comfortable and having a blast with the people they trust and love.
What can a guy do to impress you?
See the question above!
As a kid, did you get into trouble?
I ran away once. I remember just wanting to pack a little sack and tie it to the end of a stick and just see how long I could be gone… not really a good idea. I also tried to bake a cake from scratch once. I tried to cook it in the microwave… not a really good idea either. I also liked stealing Barbies from my sister and cutting their hair. Muahaha.
What's your best quality?
I think that it is my optimism. I always like to see the best in people and situations.
Do you have a hidden talent?
I guess I don’t have any... because I really don't like to keep my talents hidden. Most everyone knows that I am a singer. It is my very favorite thing to do in the whole world. My secret dream job is to become a famous pop star! I used to do Whitney, Mariah, Janet and Paula impersonations as a child. I would spin around and morph in to one and scream with a lisp, “I’m Whitney Hoooooosten!”
Tell us something that people wouldn't believe about you.
am mostly Swedish. When most people meet me they would never guess that I am a full fledged Scandinavian! I get my dark coloring from the English, French, and German genes I received from my mother’s side.
What has been your best memory of college so far?
has to be my first kiss with my boyfriend of two years. I can still remember so vividly the words we said, the place where we stood, the clothes we were wearing and the feeling in my stomach. It was freshman year, but it seems like yesterday. Thinking about it makes me feel so alive! Priceless folks, just priceless!
